Hi guys, Dana here! I haven't been active here since August!! This fall 2019 semester has been SO CRAZY for me and overall SUPER STRESSFUL because of various situations that I won't go in detail of. All you have to know is that I am finally pulling through the semester. Some amazing things have happened since I was last here. I was donated $600 USD from a follower on Twitter to help pay off this school bill I had to pay in order to be in the fall 2019 semester. What an incredible blessing! I also won the XP-Pen Artist 15.6 Pro in a giveaway, a pen display that costs $400 and I won it for free!! I ended up giving my Gaomon P1560 to my sister Danai, who you all are aware of. Then lastly a follower and previous art commission client of mine donated $100 to me for a school bill that I have to pay for by the end of the semester. I also made new friends this semester at the U of A, and although I faced many hardships and suffered greatly, I feel that I have grown so much as an artist, student, and person.

Here are some recent artworks of mine, I've been most active on Twitter and not so much on Instagram:

I'm going to be cleaning up my deviantART page over my winter break and HOPEFULLY remember to be active on here. ^^ The ONLY thing really holding me back from deviantART is their horrid lack of a good app, because these days I am constantly on the move and need a proper DA app on my phone/iPad Pro to post my artworks. I do not always have my laptop, and honestly its such a pain to have to carry around my laptop JUST to post to DA.

Well, I look forward to hearing from you all. Thank you for reading and God bless! ~ Dana

☆ My Traditional & Digital Art Supplies ☆

Hello everyone, Dana here! So I get a lot of questions about what art supplies I use across all my social media and in real life, so I decided to make a post about it here on deviantART so I can share it to my social media. This list will be updated over time if I end up buying new art supplies. For example, I do plan on getting the 120 set of Faber-Castell Polyhchromos, so once I get that I'll add it to this list. I'll also briefly talk about each art supply. If you have any questions, please comment down below.

I hope this list will be helpful for you all! :la: :squee:

☆ Traditional Art Supplies

Paper:

  • Strathmore Toned Tan paper in 8.5 x 5.5 inches and 9 x 12 inches sizes
    • When it comes to my traditional art, this is the most asked question besides what colored pencils I use. Strathmore is an excellent brand and I use the toned tan for my colored pencil art. The toned tan works with a variety of colors, but certain tans and skin tones don't really show up/stand out that well on the tan paper. Pastel colors, saturated bright colors and darker colors look excellent on this paper.

  • Strathmore Toned Grey paper in 9 x 12 inches size
    • After trying out toned tan paper, I decided to try out the toned grey. It's just as great as the toned tan, but skin tones and browns/tans show up better on this paper than the toned tan. As you might expect, certain greys don't show up very well on this paper, but for the most part all other colors show up well on this paper.
(Note: This is toned grey but my LG G5 phone camera always makes my toned grey look tan and my toned tan look grey, I don't know why. Once I go to Fedex and scan this art along with a few others, I'll update this picture.)

  • Canson FanBoy Comic Manga Illustration marker paper in 9 x 12 size
    • This paper I use for my marker art. Currently, I only have one WIP of an art of this marker paper, but I am unable to finish it because I didn't realize the fineliners I used were water based and alcohol based markers will make the water based ink feather. Other than that, this is great paper and I will be using it for my marker art and archival non-water based ink, which I'll be talking about later.

  • I currently use the Artist Loft 8.5 x 11 inch sketchbook for sketches, but honestly this paper is terrible and I don't recommend it. I bought it years ago when I didn't know anything about paper and I wanted a hard cover sketchbook, but I'll be looking around for a new sketchbook and I'll post it here.

  • Note: For my graphite art, I used to use the Strathmore Recycled Drawing paper, but I don't really like that paper anymore for graphite drawings, so I'm currently searching for a new paper. Once I find something I like I'll post it here.

Pencils:

  • Pentel Twist-Erase GT 0.5 mm mechanical pencil
    • This is my absolute favorite mechanical pencil for sketching. I love 0.5 mm lead and this pencil is absolutely wonderful. I love the way it feels in my hand and Pentel lead is really great quality. I create all my sketches with these pencils. I also use it for writing and my writing comes out thin, crisp and clean.

  • General's Kimberly graphite pencils
    • These graphite pencils are okay to be honest. The lighter shades are a bit scratchy and although you can make good art with them, they aren't the best. I will be upgrading to the Staedtler graphite pencils soon.

Inkers/Fineliners:

  • Faber-Castell PITT Artist Pens in XS, S and F sizes
    • When I first started using inkers, I used the Sakura Pigma Microns because I heard about them from Mark Crilley back in the early days on YouTube. I've tried liking them for years, but I just didn't get the results I wanted. But one day back in 2014-2015, my Michael's was out of the Microns, so I decided to try out the Faber-Castells. Man, these inkers are so smooth and clean! I absolutely love them! I immediately switched to them and I have been using them ever since. I highly recommend them.

  • Staedtler Triplus Fineliners 42 set
    • I heard about these fineliners online from MaeArtistry, and I was curious to try them out as I have never used colored inkers/fineliners. These are excellent quality, though I found out a little too late that they are water-based. So when I made a Hatsune Miku art and inked it with these, the alcohol based markers I was using caused the drawing to feather and bleed. At the time I didn't know that water-based ink should not be used with alcohol based markers, so I will be using these for my colored pencil art instead.

Erasers:

  • Pentel Hi-Polymer Erasers
    • I've been using these erasers for years for school and art. They are cheap in price but are wonderful for erasing and really don't leave any traces of graphite left behind. What can I say, they rock!

  • Faber-Castell Large Kneaded Erasers
    • I've tried many different kneaded erasers, but I've found that the Faber-Castell ones are the best. They don't get hard and stay pliable for ages. I don't recommend the Artist Loft one and especially the Prismacolor one. Those are garbage. The Faber-Castell one is best!

Colored Pencils:

  • Prismacolor Premier soft core colored pencils 150 pack
    • Ok, I have mixed feelings about Prismacolors. They are very smooth and creamy because of their wax based leads, and can create beautiful artwork....when they don't break. A lot of people have complained to the Prismacolor company about how they always break and that the quality control is horrendous. For my experience, it was the same. They kept breaking whenever I sharpened them and they tip always breaks off even when I'm pressing down lightly. I've tried so many sharpeners with these colored pencils, and it's been the same except for one sharpener that saved my Prismacolors: The Staedtler double hole metal handheld sharpener. This is the only sharpener I've used that doesn't make the leads break. I've even had to return my Prismacolors back to the company and they gave me a new set, but that one was worse and came with pencils that were cracked down the pencil and had a bunch of off-centered cores. I was fed up and they wanted to give me another set, but I had had it and asked for a refund of my original set. They gave me the refund and I try to use the set they gave me but the only thing is that the pencils are unreliable. I'm not going to buy Prismacolors again. This year actually I got from a friend for my birthday the 72 set of Prismacolors. So far these pencils seem ok, but we'll see.

  • Caran d'Ache Luminance colored pencils 76 set
    • I bought the Caran d'Ache Luminance pencils back in 2018, and oh man are these colored pencils amazing! They are smooth and creamy like the Prismacolors, but they don't break! They are thick, sturdy vibrant and most importantly, they have some of the highest light-fastness ratings. Which means that the drawing you colored them with won't fade overtime and will still look vibrant even 100 years later. This is especially crucial if you plan on selling your traditional art.

  • Faber-Castell Polychromos colored pencils 12 set
    • The Polychromos are excellent colored pencils; they don't break like Prismacolors and have a thick, sturdy barrel but not as thick as the Luminance. They are oil-based pencils and the colors are vibrant and smooth, but not creamy like wax-based colored pencils. They hold a point for a long time and are excellent for realism such as animal fur or making grass blades. I currently only have the 12 set so I could try them out, and I plan on buying the full 120 set sometime this year.

Markers:

  • Copic Sketch markers
    • I actually only have two Copic Sketch markers as of now, as I cannot afford to buy a 72 set. But I do borrow my sister's Copic markers and what can I say, they are the industry standard for markers and are brilliant!
Copic Sketch markers by ArtworxChan
  • I currently use the Lemouchet markers, as I cannot afford Copics and before that I used the TouchFive markers animation 80 set. The TouchFive are ok, I mean that you get what you pay for. They have a bullet nib on one end and a chisel tip on the other. The Lemouchet are similar to the TouchFive but I feel that they are slightly better quality. Recently Ohuhu came out with brush tip markers and I plan on buying their large set that they will be releasing in the fall of this year. I am tempted to buy their 40 set that they currently sell, but I'm going to wait until they release a set of at least 80 or so. I do plan on eventually buying a Copic Sketch markers 72 set, but that won't be for awhile.

Gel Pens:

  • Uniball Signo Broad white gel pens
    • I started using these pens for my traditional art back in 2018, and they are incredible! The ink flows smooth and is perfect for creating stars for galaxy art or adding highlights to anime eyes. I highly recommend them.

  • Sakura Gelly Roll White Gel Pens
    • These pens are better for smaller stars or highlights, but the ink is a little bit more transparent than the Uniball. Overall they are good, but these days I mostly use the Uniball.

  • Sakura Gelly Roll Moonlight gel pens
    • These are thicker than the standard gelly roll white gel pen and have such vibrant colors! They are great for colorful stars or highlights. The ink runs smooth and never jitters. The line is bold too. I highly recommend them.

Other colored pencils supplies:

  • Staedtler double hole metal handheld sharpener
    • This sharpener is excellent quality and is the only sharpener I've found that works with Prismacolor Premier colored pencils. The smaller hole is for Prismacolor and Polychromos and the bigger hole for Luminance.
Staedtler Double Hole Sharpener by ArtworxChan
  • Unknown Brand of Pencil Extender from AliExpress
    • I heard about these from an artist on YouTube. They are made of wood and they the tip is made of metal. They do the job and sometimes the metal part slides off but I just glue it back on and it works. They only fit the Prismacolors. I do plan on buying ones for my Luminance and Polychromos, but I can't remember the name of the brand. I'll update this list once I remember the name and buy them.
Prismacolor Pencil Extenders by ArtworxChan
  • Lemouchet Colorless Blender Marker
    • I use this as a solvent to blend my colored pencils to make it smooth, mostly for clouds and sky backgrounds. I used to use the Prismacolor colorless blender marker, but that one only lasted me one use and is quite expensive, so I use the Lemouchet instead. It works better than the Prismacolor one, lasts longer, and is significantly cheaper in price. (I couldn't find a photo of one but to be honest any colorless blender marker will work well as a solvent for colored pencils.)
  • Prismacolor Colorless Blender Pencil
    • I use this pencil to blend my colored pencils when I want a rougher blend that isn't super smooth like the Lemouchet colorless blender marker. It's great for my second galaxy style, which I created when doing this Mimikyu art:

  • Agptek A4 Stepless Brightness Tracing Pad
    • I heard about this from MaeArtistry, it's a light pad used for transferring drawings to the final paper. I've only used it a few times because I started doing more digital art recently, but overall it's great!
Agptek A4 Tracing Pad by ArtworxChan
  • Up and Up Tracing Paper
    • I use this paper for making the sketch so I can transfer the drawing to the toned paper. I only do this for special drawings to be honest, or drawings that I know I'm going to be erasing a lot so that I don't leave any marks left on the toned tan. Here is the tracing paper art and then the toned tan final art:

Well everyone, those were all my traditional art supplies! Let's take a look at my digital art supplies. :la: :dummy: :D :squee:

☆ Digital Art Supplies ☆

Introduction:

I started doing digital art back in 2013. My first digital art was this Yami Yugi: I am...The King of Games. by ArtworxChan and I used my brother's Windows 7 PC, Adobe Photoshop CS2 and a mouse. My first graphics tablet was the VisTablet PenPad, which looking back was awful but I didn't know at the time because it was my first tablet. Then I got the Wacom Bamboo Capture which was a pretty good tablet. Then last year I won the Wacom Intuos in a giveaway here on deviantART, and that tablet is really awesome. But as a late Christmas gift from my mom, I got the Gaomon pd1560 15.6 inch pen display. It's one of those tablets with a screen to draw on, and it works wonderfully! I also got back in January of this year the iPad Pro 2018 11 inch. It has been a fun experience, but honestly it is too small and will be upgrading to the 12.9 inch version.

  • Gaomon PD 1560 15.6 inch display
    • This pen display is awesome and works well for being a cheaper alternative to the name brand Wacom. I have no complaints about it. Here is my first art I created on my Gaomon:

I will update this journal when I get the 12.9 inch iPad Pro! That's gonna be it for this one, guys! I hope this was helpful for you! Please fav and comment and God bless! ~ Dana

Hello everyone, Dana here!

It has been awhile, again! XD Back in May I said I was coming back to DA, but then I got busy with a lot of things to the point where I wasn't even giving Instagram as much attention as I usually do. But now I am officially gonna get my head in the DA game, and I started by buying a 3 month core membership and updating my username! Woo-hoo!

I've been most active on Twitter these days. A lot of my time was taken up doing a Dragon Ball tournament roleplay, but now for the rest of the summer, I'm going to focus on these things:

  • Commissions
  • Updating my DA site
  • Working on my manga/light novel
  • Posting regularly to DA, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook Page
I'm also going to be focusing on getting ready to go back to school this coming fall semester. As well as learning how to drive and other things. So that's gonna be it for this journal, thank you all so much for reading and God bless!

Hello guys, it's been awhile! This is Dana and I'm returning to DA! :happybounce: I am a dummy! Clap

I'm actually writing this on my iPad Pro so forgive me if the font is wonky. xD But hey guys, it's been awhile! I'm back and will be giving my page a makeover soon. How are you guys? Life has been pretty crazy for me since we last talked. Long story short, I finished my third semester of University this past spring and it was one of the toughest semesters I've had so far!! I'm still drawing of course and it's mostly the same kind of things, anime, fan art, original work, commissions, etc. But my art has improved a lot and I have a lot planned for the rest of my summer break. Here's a few pieces I did this year so far and one recent WIP.

I would show more art but DA is being wonky in Safari on my iPad, I guess it's best to use DA on the computer. Let's talk more in the comments section! It's good to be back! :iconveritas-a4g:
